Ohh, you think I look young?! Well, you’re not the only one.

Okay. Okay. I look tired. I am tired, but not as tired as I was the other day, when I went to the servo after some drinks and snacks to tie us over from a long day with grumpy, sick kids.

It was a Sunday afternoon, it was raining, we had been bickering a bit all day at home, and I can reveal that I had not showered or put on any make-up what so ever that weekend.

Then I went into our local Shell servo…

Me, trying to hide my tiredness and look a bit friendly, while putting a pile of snacks and drinks on the counter: “Just this stuff, thanks.”

Servo dude: “A big day? You look a bit tired.”

Me: “Yeah, I am very tired. Sick kids at home, you know.”

Servo dude, a bit puzzled: “Wow, you have kids?! Would never have guessed that. Guess you must have started early. Fair enough.”

Me, smiling: “Haha, how old do you think I am?”

Servo dude: “Well, I don’t know. Maybe 24?”

Me: “Hahaha…I’m 33.”

Servo dude: “Noooooooo way?! You can’t be 33.”

Servo dude: “33, really?! Mayn, I did not see that coming. Haha. I can’t believe that.”

Me: “True story”

Servo dude, shaking his head: “33”

Servo dude, handing me my stuff in a bag: “Well, whatever it is you’re doing keep on doing it. You’re doing great. Have a good night.”

Me, now leaving the shop with the biggest smile on my face: “Thanks………..you too, man.”

Whether he was actually just being nice or he sincerely thought I was a young mum from the hood, only he knows. I just know, that I’m gonna keep on doing, what I’m doing.

Thank you, young Shell-worker-dude. Keep on doing what YOU’RE doing. You’re doing a great job.
